About the Colcom Foundation
What is the Colcom Foundation?
The Colcom Foundation is a philanthropic organization that was founded in 1996. It follows the ideals of its
founder, Cordelia S. May, in regards to taking care of planet Earth.
Like May, the foundation is concerned with the impact that human activity is having
on our planet. She foresaw that the changes we make to the natural world may
one day stop the planet from being able to support us. Further, she foresaw
that our changes would prevent the world from being able to sustain the quality
of life that we have grown accustomed to.
In general, this philanthropic organization is one dedicated to addressing the
latest mass extinction event: that of human overpopulation. Further, Colcom Foundation is dedicated to
addressing the overpopulation problem with dignity and compassion for the human
race.
What does the Colcom Foundation fund?
It funds various environmental, educational, and humanitarian aid endeavors. It is
particularly interested in furthering causes that work with the planet’s
carrying capacity, its local environments, and the local human communities it
supports. The foundation hopes to support its anti-extinction dreams, maintain
democratic values, and to improve ethics when it comes to the environment.
Colcom Foundation supports several special programs, including the Conservation Catalyst
Fund,
which grants conservation organizations working to protect threatened species
and habitats. By offering financial support and resources, this foundation
allows these groups to make significant strides in conservation efforts.
Some examples of what the foundation has funded include media groups and scientific
studies aimed at examining the carrying capacity of the earth: That is, the
group has paid for education that reduces unplanned, unwanted pregnancies, and
the group has paid for studies that examine the effects of immigration on local
environments. The group gives funds to conservation groups as well, and to
watchdog groups that ensure that environmental laws are adequately enforced.
Further examples combine education and cultural enrichment by keeping the doors
open at museums dedicated to the natural world and maintaining trails and
natural parks.
Beyond the scope of pure environmentalism, the foundation also assists with such
charitable efforts as healthcare and feeding the homeless. Refer to this article to learn more.
