Successful entertainment attorney Damien Granderson is an American professional baseball player with the New York Yankees. Before playing in Major League Baseball, he attended the East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania on a scholarship as a wide receiver. Jurors’ charging requests for a jury trial in criminal cases are not allowed unless their answers disclose that they have been convicted of a crime.

Or, as Damien Granderson explains, that has answered a question about any criminal conviction or arrest during a voir dire examination. This has created a dilemma for many jurors who serve on juries and must wait until they deliver their verdict before learning if the defendant is admitting guilt to determine if they can be charged with contempt of court- which could result in fines.

He has advocated for legislation that would let judges ask the judge’s permission to remove anyone who does not believe in the jury system from the jury panel, but his bill was not passed. After being drafted in 2004, he played for the New York Yankees organization until 2007, when he left to pursue a career as a footballer. In 2009, Damien Granderson became an actor and appeared in several films and series before returning to baseball with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2013. 

He joined the New York Yankees in 2016. Granderson debuted in the 2013 film The Heat, starring Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy. He also appeared in two episodes of “Rizzoli & Isles” as Marcus Kingston and two episodes of “Major Crimes” as Ethan Leland before returning to baseball full-time in 2014 with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
