In 2013, Justin founded Peiwo APP and renamed it TRON. He became an advisor for the project after leaving his position as BitTorrent Inc’s CEO. This company developed BitTorrent peer-to-peer protocol and its file-sharing client software, now known as uTorrent.
NFTs are non-fungible tokens that utilize blockchain technology to create unique digital artworks and collectibles which can be tracked and traded. A new trend of digital collecting is where NFTs are being used to create rare, one-of-a-kind items with unique and desirable characteristics to collectors.
An NFT is a token representing an asset with minimal value, tracked by blockchain technology. Its worth is based on a consensus algorithm (one of the most well-known being Proof Of Work). Many examples include CryptoKitties and CryptoPunks in various game titles like Eve Online, which use blockchain technology to track unique and valuable assets. Justin Sun believes that NFTs have the potential to be collected by Gen Z art buyers and will soon reach $10 billion a year in the art market.
The demand for NFT-based art may be driven by the fact that the artwork can be easily transferred to another party, meaning it has high liquidity (quality of an asset with which it can be converted into cash quickly), thus serving as a fast-growing trading platform for digital collectors. Another exciting characteristic of Non-Fungible Tokens as artworks is that blockchain technology is self-verifying and immutable. These assets will save them from being stolen or counterfeited.
