- Personal Life
Margie Hauser was born and raised in New Braunfels, Texas. She began singing when she was six and was officially “discovered” at eleven. When she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, at 16, she discovered her lifelong career as a songwriter and recording artist. Hauser attended Canyon High School. While playing basketball in high school, she created a songwriting team with an English teacher named Jeff Wilson, who became known as the “Wilsons.” The group finished writing their first song in 1980; it was released by Nashville-based label Flat Seven Records as a 45 rpm single in 1981 with no further distribution.
- Career
Hauser’s first job in the music industry was as a demo singer. Her first success as a songwriter and performer came with her band Margie Hauser and the Wilsons, whose new wave-influenced style of country music was compared to that of Blondie, the Go-Go’s, and Pat Benatar. She then became signed with Life Records, a subsidiary of Warner Brothers Records, and released her first solo album in 1984. In it, she collaborated with singer and songwriter Clint Black on two tracks while he was only beginning his career, namely “I’m Over You” and “Stand or Fall.”
- Achievements
Hauser’s first two solo albums were released on the independent label Life Records. Her 1983 self-titled debut album produced three singles, including “Me Myself and I,” which reached the top of the Billboard magazine Hot Country Songs chart. In 1986, her second album, “Love Made to Order,” was released by RCA Records and featured the hit singles “I’m Sorry” and “Do Me Right,” which both reached number three on the country charts.
Throughout her career, Hauser has collaborated with several industry stars and newcomers alike, including but not limited to Clint Black, Tanya Tucker, and Tim McGraw. Although most of Hauser’s musical success has been in country music, she also co-wrote songs with contemporary Christian artist Kim Boyce on Boyce’s album “Been There.”
