Director

Randy Douthit

Randy Douthit, who was executive producer of the popular television court show Judge Judy since its premiere in September 1996, has been running his online courtroom ever since. He’s also been researching lawsuits and trial practices for 20 years and thinks people often get themselves into trouble because they get emotionally invested in their cases. He advises: “People should try to stay objective and do the best job they can at figuring out what happened.”

Randy Douthit will produce the new show. His resume includes such acclaimed productions as “Judge Judy,” “Larry King Live,” and “Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.” Douthit also worked on “Crossfire,” which aired on MSNBC between 2004 and 2008. In addition to producing successful programming, Douthit spent 15 years on the staff at CNN, where he became known as one of the “creative geniuses” behind the legendary “CNN Tonight With Larry King” and “Crossfire.” Douthat says she’ll ask tough questions and deliver harsh verdicts in her new reality show — a far cry from her current role as an entertainment attorney. It’s not clear when the new show will debut.

Douthit credits his early success to his desire and passion for the job, noting, “I was always there; the mind was always set on doing everything I could to see the show continue.” His dedication paid off – throughout his successful television career, Randy Douthit has garnered an unprecedented six CableAce Award nominations, six Emmys, and two Peabodys. Quincy Jones once referred to him as one of the most creative and innovative producers he’d ever seen, and he’s worked with presidents Jimmy Carter, Richard Nixon, and George HW Bush.

Randy Douthit has worked closely with Judy Sheindlin throughout the years. Sheindlin is known for being tough and demanding but also down-to-earth and caring. During production, she works hard to ensure that everything goes smoothly. Regardless of how busy things get during the shoot, Sheindlin keeps it easy for her crew. When asked about working with Sheindlin, Douthit said, “She’s a wonderful lady.”

Randy DouthitProducing Judy Justice was particularly challenging because filming occurred during a global health crisis. The strict protocols used to protect the cast and crews—masking, regular testing, vaccination—added even more time to the already lengthy production process. In addition, the extensive precautions taken to keep everyone safe (and not get sick) meant extra days spent assembling the episodes.
