Randy Douthit And His TV Career Experience

Randy DouthitRandy Douthit is a veteran television producer known for working on Judge Judy for 25 years and producing two seasons of Judy Justice. Before getting off the screen, Judge Judy had become one of the most watched and highly-rated broadcast daytime shows, winning several Emmy awards.

Having spent much time with Judith Sheindlin, he says she is a fantastic person to work with. While she can be stern and testy, he says she is also gracious and funny, delivering judicial advice coupled with old-fashioned common sense.

Randy Douthit was excited to take on Justice Judy, the show that replaced Judge Judy after its last episode on 23rd July 2021. The first Justice Judy episode aired on 1st November 2021.

He said taking on the new project was easier because most people they had worked with before remained on board. However, he said it was a little challenging to work on the first two seasons of the small-claims courtroom show produced by Amazon Studios because of the pandemic.

The team finished working on the show’s first part in 2021 when the pandemic was at its peak. However, that did not stop them because they made and produced 120 episodes in three months.

Throughout that time, Randy Douthit said the biggest challenge was ensuring everything ran smoothly. The pandemic also added to the show’s production cost and time because of the pandemic precautions and avid testing.

However, his experience, skills, and speed acquired throughout his long career saw him do a seamless job. Like everybody else, Randy Douthit says he had to work through numerous other positions before becoming the seasoned producer and director he is today.

He started his career in local television when he was still in school. According to him, one thing that made him always do a good job is his love for what he does.

Randy DouthitHe then worked as a director at KGW, where he helped make ‘Peabody’ an award-winning children’s program. He then transferred to Atlanta-based Cable News Network, now known as CNN. At the time, it was a new cable network working on changing the news industry by offering 24-hour coverage for daily events.

He did feature stories across New York, news talk shows in Washington D.C and Atlanta and started ‘Crossfire,’ a debate program. He also worked on other shows like ‘Capital gang,’ ‘Larry king Live,’ ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air,’ and ‘Seattle Today.’
