The Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation Has a First-Ever Chief of Staff

Shelton Haynes, president and chief executive officer of Roosevelt Island Operating Company (RIOC) promoted Aida Morales to the chief of staff for the first time. He had previously given her a free, preferred spot in the New York State Shelton Haynes Parking Area.

Aida Morales has worked for RIOC for three years and is well-liked there, but Haynes’s communications staff still needs to make announcements, justify a new management post, or explain why Morales was the most suitable candidate.

The Haynes leadership sees no necessity for community communication despite residents being contacted for the costs of most RIOC operations. As with Andrew Cuomo, he has the support of Governor Kathy Hochul despite the increased secrecy.

During his brief term, Haynes established new RIOC rules for secrecy while rewarding allies and accumulating benefits for himself. A security detail that no other RIOC leader ever considered necessary has also been added, and he has taken over an entire commercial space. The latest promotion of Tajuna Sharpe, which was also unexplained, and Aida Morales match the description provided by a RIOC employee.
