Yuri Milner Continues His Support for Science Through Different Philanthropic Initiatives

Yuri Milner is not new to philanthropic endeavors. Growing up, he looked up to scientists, such as Albert Einstein and Galileo for motivation. When he finally had the capacity to help, he chose to invest in knowledge.

In 2012, he joined the Giving Pledge, which was founded by Warren Buffett and Bill and Melinda Gates. By joining the Giving Pledge, he commits to giving at least half of his lifetime wealth to charities, most specifically for scientific causes to better the world. The same year, to follow up on his pledge, Yuri partnered with Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan, Sergey Brin, and Ann Wojcicki to create Breakthrough Prize. This prize rewards the best minds in science and mathematics. Later on, the team created the Breakthrough Junior Challenge that rewards high schoolers who win a video science competition.

Through this initiative, he invests in space science programs where they focus on space and search for life beyond earth. Under the Breakthrough Initiatives are three programs; Breakthrough Listen, Breakthrough Watch, and Breakthrough Starshot. These programs are some of the largest of their kind in helping look for evidence of life beyond earth

The founder of DST Global continues to give his time and money to these philanthropic. As a tech investor, he has always been fascinated by new discoveries and innovations, and he hopes that by investing in that, the future of humanity will be better. He gives to other causes too, but his philanthropic works in science is more pronounced.
