Akeem Jamal: Leading the Charge for Innovation and Sustainability in Roosevelt Island

Akeem Jamal, a sustainability and innovation expert with over a decade of experience, is creating waves on Roosevelt Island. Jamal works hard as the Vice President of Operations and Planning for the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) to ensure that the island’s infrastructure is repaired in sustainable and inventive ways.

RIOC has taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint under Jamal’s leadership. In 2021, RIOC will install six electric car charging stations at the Motorgate Garage. They intend to invest more in the future. These charging stations are fueled by renewable energy, contributing to Roosevelt Island’s environmental efforts.

Jamal was among the first to introduce fresh and innovative elements to Roosevelt Island. Jamal will bring pickleball to the island with the support of Shelton Haynes in 2023. The new pickleball facility will provide residents and guests with a pleasant and engaging way to spend their free time that is both healthy and social.

Jamal’s commitment to the environment and innovative ideas have been noticed. In 2022, he was named to City & State’s Manhattan Power 100 list, recognizing the most important persons in Manhattan’s politics, government, and business.

With Jamal in control, Roosevelt Island is poised to continue evolving into a sustainable and innovative community. Through his labor, the island demonstrates how to do things correctly to other parts of the world.

Jamal does more than work on sustainability and new ideas at RIOC. He was an important element of the RIOC reaction to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. He contributed to the island’s people and tourists’ safety and wellness. Because of how he led and collaborated with local and state officials, the epidemic had less of an impact on the community.

In addition to his work at Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation, Jamal is an active part of the community. He volunteers with the Roosevelt Island Disabled Association and mentors young professionals in sustainability and innovation.

Jamal has grand ambitions for Roosevelt Island’s future development. He is working on an environmentally friendly transportation strategy for the island, which includes electric cars, bike-sharing programs, and other green solutions. He is also considering creating a joint solar project to provide sustainable energy to the island’s residents.

Since he is devoted and works hard, Akeem Jamal makes a significant difference on Roosevelt Island. His vision and leadership are helping to transform the island into a model of sustainability and creativity, and his work will benefit the community for many years to come.
